Job Summary
Under minimal supervision and as a systems engineer, design, configure, test, implement, administer and troubleshoot iSeries
based server infrastructure hardware and associated systems.
Specific Responsibilities
Works to understand and develop technical alternatives and high level solutions for potential new product offerings, and evolutionary solutions to existing services.
Consistently researches and seeks out new ways to enhance and improve the technical component of our services.
Proactively remains on the cutting edge of new technology offerings related to lines of business.
Ensures that WTS has well thought out, cost-effective solutions that integrate with lines of business before investing engineering, administrative, and other technical resources.
Ensures WTS systems are managed and maintained utilizing industry best practices throughout the entirety of the system life cycle.
Performs other duties as requested.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or GED or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or above from four-year college or university in Computer Science or Management Information Services desired.
Minimum 10+ years of technical experience in Information Technology field (Minimum 8+ years if MS degree in field).
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstratable experience engineering and implementing technical solution based on IBM iSeries technologies in a high availability environment.
Demonstratable experience designing and implementing disaster recovery and high availability solutions using current industry products such as Mimix, DataMirror, or iTera.
Advanced troubleshooting skills and abilities.
Exceptional communication, technical leadership and customer service skills.
Advanced technical knowledge of iSeries hardware, software, OS400, TCP/IP networking, data communications and related tools and utilities.
Demonstrate aptitude of specific infrastructure components and technologies including: HA Solution/Data Replication Design and Implementation (Mimix, iTera, DataMirror); iSeries System Architecture and Design; LPAR Design and Implementation; HMC Usage and Administration; Backup and Recovery Solution Design (BRMS, e-vaulting, VTL, 3494 tape library, IBM 3590 and LTO 1-4 tape drives); OS400 Installation and Upgrades (Power 5 and 5 Plus V5R2, 3, and 4); Security Administration and Control; Work and Performance Management; Capacity Planning and Analysis; TCP/IP Communication (SNA & TCP/IP); Programming (SQl/400, CL/400); Tools and Utilities (TAATOOLS, EZVIEW, Query/400, Performance Navigator, Messenger Plus); System and Data Migration (RISC to RISC), 3rd Party Software Solution Design, Standards Compliance and Regulatory Auditing Support; Develop, Implement and facilitate internal knowledge transfer initiatives.
Ability to work non standard hours if needed including nights, weekends and holidays.
Some travel may be required.
